Intercampus Program in Communicative Disorders

Mark E. Chertoff, Ph.D., Director
Auditory Processing Laboratory

Equipment: Digital signal processing equipment for signal delivery, recording, and analysis.

Research objectives: The goal of the research in my laboratory is to develop clinical procedures leading to differential diagnosis of sensorineural hearing loss. Using anatomic and mathematical techniques we are pursuing methods to describe both the locations of lesions within the cochlea and auditory nerve, as well as characterizing the pathophysiology of surviving structures. Localizing the site of lesion and pathophysiology of surviving structure will be important for hearing aid development and new therapeutic interventions such as gene and fetal tissue transplant therapy.
