Funding Sources for Graduate Students
Funding for graduate students in the Intercampus Program in Communicative Disorders (IPCD) falls into the following categories:
Graduate School Fellowships (limited nominations by the program for each fellowship). To be considered for nomination for these highly competitive fellowships, submit your complete graduate application to the admissions secretary no later than January 15th if you wish to enter in the fall. Awards are determined on the basis of merit competition.
IPCD Program Projects and Traineeships. The number of projects and traineeships may vary from year to year. A project-specific application, additional coursework, or previous training may be required for eligibility. Some examples are listed below:
- Veterans Administration Hospital Traineeship (Kansas City, MO and Topeka, KS). See www.va.gov/oaa/fellowships/.
- Center for Child Health Development Traineeships, KU Medical Center Campus (usually reserved for second-year graduate students).
- Communication and Technology Project, Lawrence campus, application distributed.
Graduate Teaching Assistantship and Graduate Research Assistantship in the Departments of Speech-Language-Hearing (Lawrence) or Hearing and Speech (KU Medical Center, Kansas City). The number and type of these positions vary from year to year. See faculty pages at www.ku.edu/~splh/ipcd/Faculty/ to contact individual faculty members and inquire about the availability of assistantships.
Other Awards and Scholarship Information.
- SERTOMA. Several local organizations provide scholarship assistance ($500-$1000) on a regular basis. Applications are distributed when these scholarships are available.
