Intercampus Program in Communicative Disorders

Graduate training in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at the University of Kansas is an intercampus program combining the faculty, research and clinical facilities of two departments: the Department of Hearing and Speech, which is located at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, and the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing: Sciences and Disorders, which is located in Lawrence. Graduate degrees conferred through the Intercampus Program include the Master of Arts, the Doctor of Philosophy in Speech-Language Pathology and in Audiology, and the Au.D. (Doctorate in Audiology).

The University of Kansas Intercampus Program in Communicative Disorders (IPCD) was established in 1955, and became the first program in the country to receive accreditation in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from the Council in Academic Accreditation, http://www.asha.org/academic/accreditation/AboutCAA.htm  (CAA).  We do not offer an online gradiuate degree program.

Studies in related departments on both campuses provide an added dimension of excellence in available coursework as well as research and clinical opportunities. The Department of Speech-Language-Hearing supports the doctoral program in Child Language in conjunction with the Departments of Psychology, Linguistics, and Applied Behavioral Sciences, and the Human Biology Program in conjunction with the Division of Biological Sciences. Undergraduate courses are offered primarily on the Lawrence campus, and lead to either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of General Studies degree.

The Hearing and Speech Department also administers the Hartley Family Center (HFC). The HFC is a unique consortium designed to provide diagnostic, habilitative and educational services for deaf and hard-of-hearing children ranging in age from birth to three years and their families. Personnel and other resources from the Department, local school districts and infant-toddler agencies, the state school for the deaf and a local benefactor are combined to offer these services in a home-based environment.
