Biography —
Dr. Hashim Raza is a molecular geneticist whose research bridges the fields of genetics and communication sciences. Dr. Raza is an Associate Professor in the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing: Sciences & Disorders at the University of Kansas (KU). Before starting at the University of Kansas, Dr. Raza was a visiting fellow at the National Institutes of Health, where his research focused on the genetic basis of persistent stuttering. Dr. Raza and his mentors and colleagues at the NIH reported significant findings for stuttering and hereditary hearing loss. At KU, his work focuses on uncovering the genetic and epigenetic foundations of speech and language disorders. He has led NIH-funded studies and published widely on Specific Language Impairment (SLI), Speech Sound Disorders (SSD), and stuttering.
Beyond the lab, Dr. Raza is passionate about mentoring emerging scientists and fostering inclusive research environments. He is actively involved in international collaborations and serves on editorial boards and academic committees. Originally from Pakistan, he brings a global perspective to his work and enjoys connecting science with community impact. Outside academia, he finds joy in exploring world cultures, supporting student organizations, and spending time with his family.
